Cyclists and cars have been in the news a lot lately. Check out this recent report from NBC Nightly News. We all want safer roads for cyclists and this is probably one of the biggest deterrents for getting more people on bikes. Well, here is a great chance to do something about it.
With three cycling related accidents in 3 consecutive days in Newport Beach, the local O.C. cycling community got a wake up call. This spurred the Newport Beach Memorial Ride which was organized in less then a month but got over 1,200 cyclists. This will be followed up by a silent auction fundraiser tomorrow night (Thursday, 11/29) to help raise funds for the Newport Beach Bicycle Safety Improvement Fund. This is a multi- bike shop event and ARB will be participating. Please come out to Surf City Cyclery in Costa Mesa tomorrow night and make your voice heard! Click here to RSVP!
Newport Beach has some of the most beautiful riding in Orange County and PCH is full of cyclists just about every weekend. And while statistically cycling is a safe activity, we can do much more to minimize accidents through road infrastructure improvements all over the county. Newport Beach is stepping up to the plate by offering to match $3 for every $1 raised at the auction. This a great opportunity to make difference in your local community!! Hope to see you there.
