So Cal Cross CX Into 2013 Race

My third and last race of my first cross season was the So Cal Cross Prestige Series event at Irvine Lake. This was a cold and damp event with plenty of steady climbs, a muddy false flat, some hairpin turns, sand pits and few open stretches. Adding to the fun was my trusty All City Nature Boy singlespeed cross bike. Like most singlespeed riders, I was lazy and left the same gear ratio of 42-19 that I have used for the other races on for this race. This was a bad choice as I was over-geared for most of the course. After starting near the back of the pack, I got to pick off several people in the first lap including David A from Fox Racing. Then had some intense battles as pack fodder and managed to pass Dave K from Gear Head Cycles in the last lap to end up 28th out of 44 racers in the Men’s C race. I have a blast running my singlespeed in the regular geared class since there are more people in that group for me to battle. The race capped off a great first season of cross for me and I will be back and racing more events in 2013.
