For 2014, the BMC Fourstroke frame comes in three renditions: full carbon, carbon front triangle with aluminum rear end, and full aluminum. The sleek, light and fast Fourstroke family of bikes bridges the gap between race bike and lightweight trail bike.
The FS01 29 is BMC’s flagship model of the Fourstroke family of endurance race bikes.
Developed in the factory for the course – the fourstroke FS01 sets the standard for lightweight, race-standard full suspension bikes. With a frame weight of 2000 grams (including shock system), optimized APS suspension system and perfectly coordinated components, the FS01 offers the ultimate in ride performance.
The geometry is built around the BWC (Big Wheel Concept). A longer top tube and slacker head angle, in combination with wide handlebars, make the handling stable and comfortable. Short chain stays, low bottom bracket and a short stem complete the concept by keeping the bike lively.
The combination of big wheels, stable geometry and APS suspension makes the bike capable of overcoming any obstacle. High torsional stiffness improves steering precision and boosts confidence.
The 2014 Fourstroke FS01 also uses BMC’s advanced pivot system. By carefully calculating the position of the pivotal points on the APS rear suspension, BMC helps convert more of the riders energy into propulsion while the shock absorbs the impact regardless of the effects of acceleration.
When accelerating, an intertial force is generated which attemps to compress the shock system. With APS, the virtual pivotal point is positioned so that the chain tension compensates for this effect. All the pedal power is used for propulsion without any loss of energy in the suspension. The shock system ensures optimum traction and therefore ensures that power is transferred to the ground. The impacts are absorbed by the shock system providing excellent comfort for the rider. The advanced pivot system offers the rider the perfect combination of efficiency, traction and comfort.
The Shimano XTR drive train is incredibly precise and reliable. Sure, you gain a bit of weight with an XTR-Trial, but this gives the FS01 29 a versatility rarely found in other race bikes. The XTR disc 180mm brakes have great modulation and power. A Shadow Plus derailleur keeps chain clatter to a null, and the Easton EA90 XC rims are wrapped in Continental Race King 2.2 tires.
Racers looking for efficiency and responsiveness will not be disappointed, and it is also the perfect tool for all day mountain bikers riding challenging terrain. Uphill or downhill, the fourstroke simply got faster.
