As noted in an earlier post, the City of Newport is getting closer and closer to finalizing their Bicycle Master Plan. The city already has substantial bike friendly paths and streets, but this project will add considerably to that total.
They are seeking your help, as interested cyclists, in making the final decisions. Members of the community may go to the plan online, review descriptions of recommendations and indicate support and leave comments, he said.
The Draft Bikeways Network is a “key component of the master plan which details the proposed bicycle network and possible improvements,” according to an email from Brad Sommers, an assistant city engineer.
“As this includes a lot of information (traditionally shown on a very busy exhibit), the project team has developed an interactive website where you can view draft recommendations for bikeway facilities including off-street bikeways, on-street bike lanes, bike routes, and bike boulevards,” he wrote.
“The comments will help with development of the master plan while public ’support’ will help prioritize projects in the master plan,” he wrote.

Comments and public input made will be used to refine recommendations and will be discussed at the committee’s next meeting on March 3. The project website will be open for review and comments through March 14.
