The Giant Defy kept its win streak alive in the Bicycling Magazine Editors’ Choice Awards, earning top honors for the fifth straight year. The 2014 Defy 3 was named Best Entry Level Road Bike, beating out a heavily contested category to take the award.
The Defy also received a special honor from Bicycling this year. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Editors’ Choice Awards, Bicycling chose six Hall of Fame bikes and included the Defy on this elite list.
To choose this year’s winners, the Bicycling editorial team narrowed down a field of thousands of bikes to choose the top candidates. They then took 27 men’s road bike finalists to a testing session in Greenville, South Carolina, where the bikes were judged on performance, durability, comfort, weight, value and price versus their competitors.
“The Giant Defy 3’s refined ride eclipsed all expectations for these lower-cost models,” wrote Bicycling editors.“The way it sailed up and over the rolling hills leading out of town reminded us of more-expensive Defy models.”
The Defy series blends Giant’s leading aluminum engineering capabilities with refined endurance geometry to produce a smooth, comfortable ride quality.
Describing the Defy 3 test model, Bicycling editors wrote: “Its comfortable saddle and supple 25c tires added to the high-end appeal. Testers also were impressed by the way it steered easily yet precisely around bends and rolled quietly over coarse pavement.”
The Editors’ Choice Awards represent the highest honor for Bicycling, the world’s largest cycling magazine with more than 2 million readers. You can read more about the Defy and the other winners in the June issue, or online at this link.
